KIG MMO Deep Wall Anode
1.Ground beds and Terminology:
In cathodic protection engineering, the term “number of deep wells” is more properly expressed in technical documents as “number of vertical anode ground beds.” A “deep well” usually refers to a vertical anode ground bed. Here, the word “well” means a deep borehole drilled for installing the anode system, typically with a depth not less than 15 meters, used to place anode strings, backfill, etc. It is completely different from oil or gas production wells.

2.Selection of Ground bed Installation Method:
Both horizontal anode ground beds and deep well (vertical) anode ground beds are used to protect buried pipelines.
The deep well anode (vertical ground bed) is one installation form of anodes in impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems. Another common form is the horizontal anode ground bed. The selection between the two depends on multiple technical and economic factors, including but not limited to surface space limitations, vertical distribution of soil resistivity, interference control requirements, and life-cycle cost. The final scheme must be determined based on detailed cathodic protection design documents.

3.Requirement for Conical Base (Guide Head):
To ensure smooth installation and central positioning of an anode string in the borehole, the first anode unit in each string (the leading anode) is usually equipped with a conical base/guide head. This base reduces insertion resistance and provides directional guidance. The subsequent anodes are then connected by cables and welded to the leading anode.
